By Paul Schmidtbauer and Tim Potter, P3S Awards Committee
Since 1971, the P3S Committee has been recognizing the achievements of high performing companies in the area of wastewater and stormwater excellence with annual awards. Separate awards are given for Southern California and Northern California and in the large and small facility categories.
Award nominations are submitted by local authorities such as the local POTW source control inspector. Nominees are evaluated by the P3S awards subcommittee including an on-site inspection. To nominate an outstanding company in your region, please email pschmidtbauer@socwa.com.
Also during the awards banquet Preeti Ghuman, an engineer with LACSD, was presented with her P3S silver manhole.
Your CWEA 2010 Annual Conference experience won’t be complete without attending the Awards and Installation Banquet on Friday, April 23, 6 to 11 p.m. in the Sheraton Grand Hotel’s Magnolia Ballroom.
This year’s banquet will be a contrast of dignified recognition and hilarious fun. For just $65, you’ll enjoy a hosted reception followed by an outstanding dinner; presentation of Water Environment Federation (WEF) awards; recognition of outgoing board members; installation of the incoming CWEA Board of Directors; and first-class entertainment by a special guest.
The Conference Committee is pleased to present comedian Tom Ryan, a long-time favorite of the comedy-club circuit. Tom has made two recent appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman, and has also appeared on Showtime, A&E, Comedy Central and NBC. A full-time standup comedian for over 15 years, he has performed as the opening act in concert for B.B. King, Natalie Cole, Jeff Beck, Tim Allen, Steven Wright, Jerry Seinfeld, and Dennis Miller to name a few. Take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy comedian Tom Ryan in a small, private setting.

There is still time to nominate deserving CWEA members for the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers! You do not have to be a current 5S member to nominate someone. Check out the awards application at http://www.cwea.org/mlr_member_awards_forms.shtml. Make someone’s day and nominate them for this prestigious award!
Review of state award nominations has begun! We received just over 100 nominations this year for nearly 20 awards. The most competitive categories are Operator of the Year with 9 nominees and Plant of the Year with 17 nominees among its three size groupings.
The review chairs will make their award determinations in late February.
Congratulations to all of the nominees for excellence in the wastewater management industry!
